Adding a program to a calendar

Every athlete and every team has a calendar. Training reaches an athlete by landing on dates there. There are two ways to put a program on a calendar, and they behave differently:

  • Follow — a reference to a calendar from Programs. Not a copy. Edits to the program flow through to everyone on it as they land.
  • Place — a copy of a template's days onto chosen weekdays. Later edits to the template stay in the template.

Which one you get depends on the program's type, so it's worth knowing templates and calendars before you start. One button covers both.

Programs holds your reusable templates and calendars. To program one athlete or team, open their calendar under Athletes or Teams.

Where the button is

Add a program sits in the page header on both surfaces:

  • An athlete — Athletes, then the athlete. The header button works from any facet. The Following list on that athlete's Overview shows what's already on their calendar, with its own Add a program… action.
  • A team — Teams, then the team. Same header button, and Following… under the header's ⋯ menu lists what the whole roster is on, with Manage for each follow.

Both open the same dialog: a Follow | Place toggle, the fields for whichever side you're on, and a What's the difference? link that explains the two program types without leaving the dialog.

Follow a calendar

Following puts a calendar from Programs on this calendar as a reference. Nothing is copied. When you write next week into the program, everyone following it sees it.

Use it for training you keep writing forward: a team's in-season plan, a monthly programming block, anything with no fixed end.

Pick the program, then the window:

  • From — the day the program starts showing up. It defaults to the day you clicked, or today.
  • Until — optional. Leave it empty to follow indefinitely.

You can stop a follow or move its window later from the same Following list. Stopping takes the days off the calendar; work the athlete already logged stays logged.

Place a template

Placing copies a template's days onto the calendar. It's a copy, not a follow — edit the template afterwards and the placed days don't change.

Use it for a finished block: an off-season phase, a peaking cycle, a twelve-week plan someone runs start to finish.

Pick the template, a start date, and the training days — the weekdays the plan trains on. Each template week lands in its own calendar week, starting from the start date, and its days take that week's training days in order. A four-week template on Mon/Wed/Fri runs four weeks. If a week has fewer days than you picked, the spare days stay empty. If a week has more, the preview says so. Pick more training days before you place.

Replace existing days is off by default. Left off, a date that already has a day on it stops the placement, so you can't quietly overwrite work. Followed days are never in the way — they live in the program they came from.

When the Follow list is empty

Follow lists live calendars only. An empty list means one of two things:

  • Everything you have is a template. Templates are placed onto chosen weekdays, never followed. Switch the toggle to Place.
  • Your calendar is still a draft. Follow won't offer a draft. Open program settings and make it live from the Overview tab after you review the training. Template placement is different: it copies workouts into the destination calendar, even from a draft. Those copies do not wait for the source to go live.

The empty state names the other side for you, so if you opened the wrong one, the fix is the toggle.

Following on a team

A team follow reaches every athlete on the roster, including athletes who join the team later — you don't re-add it for each new member. Stopping it keeps everyone's logged work.

Sessions meant for this team alone — a one-off test day, a meet — go on the team's own Calendar instead. Following is for programs that already exist in the library.
